The home buying process can be overwhelming and frustrating if you do not have a plan. Many people start with the idea of owning a home and pick up a real estate book from a local restaurant or store. Then you might look at a few houses online on www.realtor.ca or even visit a few open houses.
There are two steps to starting your home buying process. The first is to meet with a local REALTOR such as myself and the second is to meet with your bank or a mortgage broker to find out what you can afford and the options that you have. Both will help you create the best plan to finding your first home.

It makes sense to hire a REALTOR when looking for your first home. In most cases there is no direct cost to the buyer, as commissions are already included in a real estate transaction by the commissions negotiated by the selling brokerage. So it makes sense to have your interests professionally represented in your purchase just as the seller already has professional representation. Your REALTOR will help you understand market conditions, local neighborhoods, new properties that hit the market and negotiate the best price on your first home.
